Brooder Help!

Hi, I've made a reasonable size brooder for 6 chicks (I'll give measurements when I can) and I've got an infared heat lamp for it. I plan on introducing a perch at 1 week old and putting it right down one end (So it doesn't take a lot of room) and the food and water down the other. Where should I put my infared heat lamp? In the middle or on one of the ends?

Any answer would be appreciated/

On an end, so the chicks have space to get away from it.

Thanks, But on which end? The roost or the food? Or do I have to redesign my brooder? If so any recommendation would be appreciated.

How old are chicks and how big is brooder and what kind of infrared heater?
