Brooder in coop with adult hens?

I am considering adding 3 chicks to my flock. I would like to keep their brooder in the coop with my 1 year old hens just so the introduction isn't a surprise to anyone.
My thought is that keeping a brooder light in the coop would keep the other hens too warm as it is in the 40s at night here.
Has anyone ever tried the Cozy Coop heater as a brooder? Has anyone kept a brooder in the coop with adult hens? And if so, does it make the introduction period easier?

You are well on the way to being on the right track. Everything you mention is a positive except for trying to use a light to heat the chicks in the coop with laying hens and a vertical heat plate to brood the chicks.

24/7 light is not good for adult chickens' reproductive cycles, nor is it healthy for small chicks. Yes, people use these heat lamps, but it doesn't automatically make it right and proper.

Chick brooder heat ideally should resemble the sort of contact heat chicks get by being covered by a broody hen. Vertical heat won't work efficiently for this purpose.

A much better heat option for the brooder would be the heating pad system as it provides contact heat. This covers a lot of your issues you raised. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...and-start-raising-your-chicks-outdoors.71995/

Definitely going to set it up in the coop. That was a great article. And on top of that, I was checking out Tractor Supply's new brooders today and noticed the chicks running to me when I approached rather than away, which tells me everything about that article is correct. Thank you for sharing it. I had searched the site and was coming up with nothing.

We have brooder near larger birds when it's warm enough outside. And we keep Littles where they can see each other. Usually we have chicken wire between them and food and water on either side.
Really just watch first interactions.
