My chicks are a little over 6 weeks old and I shut off their heat lamp tonight. And they freaked out chirping then went to sleep then woke up and freaked out chirping again. They are in the house so it's plenty warm enough without the lamp. Will they adjust or give them a regular light bulb? First time having chicks.

They will adjust. At 6 weeks old they should be feathered out enough not to need a light at all.

They are all feathered out except under their wings. They were all sleeping cuddled together. It's normally 70 or above in the house. I weren't sure so I gave them the light back last night.

Chicks are a lot like two year olds. They don't like change, and if they squawk long enough to get what they want they'll squawk louder and longer next time they want it. Opinionated little stinkers, those chicks are! Harden your heart and put in ear plugs - maybe even have a glass or two of wine.......but eventually they'll figure it out.

Ya the pole that is attached to my brooder will only go up so highand there is nothing around it to clip the light too to lower the temp down gradually like I was told to do. It is high enough to though for the temp to be 80. But house has been running between 70 to 80 degrees. I guess cuddling is better than thenmsquaking.I will shut their light off today. Hopefully will have their coop built soon. Jus temps and weather here in Maine haven't helped lately. Thank you!
