brooder set up question

Throw a 2x4 or light timber over it and suspend the lamps(s) securely. Dead easy. I actually prefer multiple sockets so as to have a 250, a 150, and a 90 watt bulbs to better regulate the heat output to match the ambient air temps. I can mix and match the combination of lamps to about any temp required.

This is my brooder I made, I set the light at just one end right so there is a warm and cold side for the chicks to adjust themselves right? And a inch or so of pine shaving to cover the trays should be enough?
