I just checked the temp around the brooder. In the very "sunny" spot where the light shines full on it was a little over 96 degrees. In the "shady" spot it was 89 degrees. Is that ok for my 5 day old chicks? They seem to like to sleep spread out on the cooler side of the brooder.

Thanks, Sonja

The temp of your brooder should be between 90-95F for the first week and then decrease by 5 degrees each week until they are ready to go outside(around 70-75 degrees).

my chicks are 4 days old, and they pant when my brooder get anywhere near 90! i dunno, maybe these guys like cold weather, but they prefer the temp to be around 82... goobers.
