Here is my brooder for the time being until they are too big then i have another in the basement that is bigger but i wanted them in the house so i could enjoy them all hours.I think the glass fish tank is awesome and i sit and watch them constantly...it is also easy for me to see who is doing what and if there is any 'pasty butt'.

Here's one I just finished building, it's 3' x 5' and has a divider in the middle. I wanted something big enough that I can use as a grow pen till they get old enough to go in the big coop. I have plywood on the front for now because of Winter but it's gonna be replaced with wire in the Summer, I also put hardware cloth on the floor but I put plywood over it till it warms up.

Those are some awesome, great ideas for brooding containers. Being green to raising chicks, this site has been an institution of learning everything chicken from very experienced people.
I send out a warm THANKS for all the ideas.
We have 4 chicks coming in lat April. We happen to have a dog crate, large rubbermaid containers, and even some scrap wood to build my own if I get inclined to do so! So I think I'm set on the brooding part.
Next step a decent easy to build coop and small run. The coop will reside in a fenced in garden that keeps out deer and small animals. I can easily add a roof for a run of any size. Its close to electric for light and heat if needed.
My two girls are excited to get going with it. My wife still needs some convincing, but has agreed to give it a try. I know that once she gets the first egg its over! She did agree to put the brood in the basement though, so you never know.

robnms, your brooders look a lot like mind but I like your idea for the top better than the dry wall that we have now. I have two that are 4"x4" and connect them when the chicks get bigger. Everything that I used to make them were lefty overs from remodeling the house, hence the drywall tops. I did get another brooder box from work, price of free!

3x3x3 shipping crate that had a bunch of boxes in it, but it didnt have a bottom(strapped to a crappy pallet) but it had a lid, flip over and presto brooder box #3 for the garage. Now to get the incubator up and running again for the 3rd set of chicks this winter.......
