BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Here is a fun quick Brooder I made from parts purchased all at Lowes...
Cost: $30

The clear plastic box is fantastic!

All the parts are attached with drilled holes & simple Zip Strips

Useing only the dome light cord, I hard wired the demmer switch thru a cheap electric box.
(150 watt bulb) so I can simply dial control the heat...

Pretty cool!

this is mine, needs alot of work before I can use it though.

I'm in the process of building a brooder out of 2 50 gallon plastic tubs with locking lids. I'm getting 6 chicks (ok, maybe 7 - chicken math you see) in July & will be using a Premier1 heating plate as my heat source. I also have a small human & 2 cats who are very interested in this process!

Here are a few pics of the process. I'm keeping up with the step-by-step instructions in my blog in real time as I complete the project (my blog is listed in my signature)

Here are the finished lid screens:

I'm cutting windows on the outside so the small human can easily see in on the baby chicks:

I'm getting ready to join the 2 tubs together - I've got a plan to figure out the best way to do that...might take a little experimentation. I will come back and update this once it's done!

I used that exact tub (just one) and also have a very interested cat and one small human (plus two dogs) Tub worked great! We just put them outside in the chicken house for the 1st time tonight, at 7 weeks old. I was going to get a second tub and join them somehow, but we were able to get them outside earlier than expected so I didn't have to. I hope your tub joining goes well! :)

Thanks! I think I'm going to cut one with a horizontal flap going down & the other with vertical "doors" split in the middle that way there is overlap in all directions...then zip tie the crap out of it. I'm going to cover all the zip tie edges with gorilla tape on the inside to make sure there are no rough edges for baby chick feet to get caught on.

I will take pics for my blog & update here...

Here is my first attempt at building a brooder. It was made from scrap wood that was left at my house by the previous owner when we bought it.

Here are my first chicks! red sex link and black sex link. They were day olds, we're just at the end of day 2.
