This is my latest brooder I built from pine wood at 36" by 32" by 18" high.
The bolts on the side are for the brooder light stand.


I used 1/2" vinyl coated hardware cloth on the floor. I'll use soft drawer liner with paper towels until they are about a week old. The chicks won't be on wire until they are a week old. Once I pick up my droppings tray, it will be complete for Spring chicks.

Thank you. This will be my first time using a wire floor. I'll see how it goes. I cut out a piece of plywood to use on the floor in case I change my mind back to shavings. The chicks will let me know

This is a brooder Hubs and I made this week after our neighbor tore down some old picket fencing and put it by the road. We went over, took as much wood as we could salvage and well, here it is.


The new chicks are happy to be out of the plastic tote they lived in for a little more than 2 weeks.

This is a brooder Hubs and I made this week after our neighbor tore down some old picket fencing and put it by the road. We went over, took as much wood as we could salvage and well, here it is.

That's a nice brooder. It has a perfect rustic look. I made mine to sit on a table, but know I will eventually make a stand for it.

Good job with the ole pickets....shows what can be done and you were able to create from an old fence..................I do that alot around here..............zip

Heres mine.... It is a childs large plastic swimming pool about 5ft in diameter. It is surrounded by an outdoor baby gate covered in clear plastic so they can see out and I can see in. The top is made from hardware cloth stapeled to some scrap wood and resting on top. I made two panels so I can lift either side without opening the whole thing. The light and food dish hangs from a metal clothes rack that is only part way assembeled so that its not so tall. In the begining I divided it in half with cardboard but that only lasted about a week. I have 25 chicks in it who are now 5 weeks old and they are starting to look a little tight. My coop should be going up this weekend so maybe another week and they can move outside. Its starting to smell like a barn in my dining room.
