BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

And here is our huge Lab protecting the babies.........actually, he is scared of them and backs away when we get them close to him, but he wants to look at them!

This is sooo funny, our set ups are exactly the same all the way down to the color, breed, and temperament of dog! Love it!!!

I just got my chicks yesterday and made this brooder

Seeing as I spent so long looking through others photos and getting some great ideas, I thought it only fair to load some pics of the brooder we made, in case it inspires someone else :-)
We used an old pine bookcase that had just been replaced by some shelving. We knocked out the individual shells and then used that wood to make a frame for the lid. I think the only thing we bought was a hinge for the lid, so was super cheap, we also sectioned off one end with a bit of plywood that could easily be removed. We stored extra bedding, bags of food & a pooper scooper in here. When chicks got a bit bigger, we just removed the plywood to give them more space.

Ignore the heater - our heat lamp died, so this a temp (and not recommended) solution while we wait for stores to open!

I have a 12 by 7 dog kennel that I wrapped in poultry netting. I am going to put a tarp over the top and partly over the sides and brood my chicks in it!! Anybody done this before? How does it work with heat lamp?
