this is my brooder...I thought about building one out of wood...and this was laying around from our last kid and if folds up when not in use it looked good to me. I am very new to chickens we just picked up our first 4 chickens ever..!! I have about a 800 sq area for them on the side of my house. I have 2 road island reds and 2 other egg laying chickens (can't remember what they are).

I only have these two on my phone. The first is before the chicks arrived. I ended up setting the light right on top of the box to get it warm enough. When they got bigger I put a fence around it to keep them in. Now, at 5 weeks, the box with an extension because they are so big, is outside in a fence in area.it's the halfway house, lol

So I came home today and there is a soft ball size hole in the mesh so I ended up building one for them I'll post picks of it it also dose not have a top should I consider making one ?

Only if you want them to stay in the brooder. They find a way to jump up and fall off the edge to being totally out and unable to get back in.
