Hi there spencedr!

We didn't do anything special for the ventilation. There is some natural air leaks when the garage is shut up, just because of the nature of the garage, but it has also been nice enough for us to leave the garage door open when we are out doing yardwork or other chores. The temperatures here during the days have been 50's-80's, so we allow in the fresh air when we can. I haven't noticed much dust. YET. We brooded our first brood of fall chicks in the basement of our house, and we started noticing serious dust when they were between 4 and 5 weeks old. I am sure these little sprites will get messy, too. The great thing about them being in the garage this time, though, is that we can just use the yard blower and blow the dust off of everything and out the door when we are done brooding this flock.

Here is my new one I have them still in tubs 4 are in a 70-90 gallon tub, while bully is in a 70-90 gallon tub also. This new one is 8x4 roughly. It is also about 41/2 feet tall, so they can be in here for about 3-4 more weeks till they are old enough to go outside and also when the coop is done which I am building in 2 weeks when my aunt comes to help. All I know is that I need to hope bully is not bad when I put him/her in here with the others. All the wood was free, but I bought a tarp, dowel, screws, wire, heavy duty stapler, and hinges and hook and eyes. I used Facebook to find free fence and pallets to build it!

We started with this as a brooder - it's a guinea pig cage.

Glad we decided to use and EcoGlow20 - the chicks LOVE IT!

It worked really great for a couple of weeks, we have 6 chicks total.

Then I decided they needed more room and the ability to dig around and play (without kicking wood chips all over the floor....)

Here is brooder #2 - a guitar box with hardware cloth over the top. Lots of nice room to play:

@City-Chickee we love our Brinsea EcoGlow, too! We have the 50-chicken brooder, and we're currently brooding our 3rd batch of chicks with it. I like that it takes the guesswork out of whether they're too hot our too cold and allows them to self-regulate. I also appreciate that it uses less power and is much less of a fire hazard. With the split brooder setup we have going on right now, I'm having to use a heat lamp for our 3-week-old chicks, and it MAKES ME NERVOUS!!

Right I try to become as thrifty with this brooder that they will be using for a couple weeks so I can have my mom and I spend the most on the coop that they will live forever in. All I know is that the coop ordeal is difficult my mom wants to buy a coop in a box, and I rather build one for the same price that will be custom and larger and better quality.

well will have to get pics sent so I can post them, on the run/pen outside of the coup we actually used a golf practice net to cover it as it was what we had on hand and I will say it works pretty nicely. next time we will have to decide though as we came up with something else over the brooder pen turned jail for when flock members need a time out .

both the net and the window screen we put over the original pen we used for brooding them seems to work well, wish we would have though about putting that over the brooding pen when they were in there inside the house lol
