Great helper there!

Yeah he absolutley love's the chickens...anytime someone comes over that is the first thing he wants to show them...he then proceeds to tell them everything he knows about them...which is quite a bit for his age... the process on how to hold them and what everything in the brooder is for, i.e. lamp, food, water, and the perch... it is so comical watching this little person be so intrigued with these creatures...watching him is almost more fun then watching the chickens...lol

Yeah, this year is perfect for Easter. We are going to be taking pictures of him in some overalls with the chicks for our Easter card this year.

My wife also wants to take a picture of a chick on my son's bike and make a card saying something like " Gotta love this time of year. When all the Biker "Chicks" come out." LOL

We have 13 chicks and started with the 'big blue bin' a 36" plastic tote

About a week after we bought them, just as I was told they would, the chicks were twice their size and seemed way too big for the blue bin. I panicked, I've never owned a chicken before and was quite certain they would fit in this bin until the day they moved to the coop. Rummaging the garage and filtering through google info I also found a great idea for the dog kennel transformed into brooder. Those were some happy chicks on moving day - plus its way more protected from our two dogs, and the most feared predator, my 1 year old daughter.

Its a large wire dog crate, about 42" deep. I lined halfway up all around the outside with cardboard to keep little girl hands and boston terrier feet from sneaking in and also to keep the wood shavings inside. My hubby added some sticks across the wiring for perches and they love it!

There are a few pics at simplelifeainteasy (dot) blogspot (dot) com --> I'm a newbie and can't share direct links yet, but I'll earn their trust soon

Now I just hope they don't outgrow the dog crate before the weather warms up and they can go outside! How much space is actually recommended for a 3-4 week old chick?

I am rocking it on a huffy right now....I am hoping to be able to get a motorcycle this year. I would love to get an older one and play mechanic on it.
