I order the starter kit from www.mypetchicken.com
I'm getting 4 chicks in a few weeks but the cardboard brooder looks GIGANTIC! I'm wondering if I should put a smaller box in the middle of the brooder for the first few days OR should I just take out some of the cardboard slats to decrease the diameter?

I agree; the bigger, the better. I got 10 packing peanuts, better known as male chicks, with my order so I'm going to have to get a bigger brooder next week!

I got the same starter kit and I'd use the whole thing! My chicks didn't like the smaller box that i had to use b4 the brooder came *late.

I put mine in a plastic bin and by the end of the first week had hubby build me one that was 6 feet long as they are growing SO quickly! Even if it looks big to you, they need room to get out from under the heat if it's too hot so I'd use the whole thing.

Bigger is better? I'm using guinea pig cage and having hard time to keep temp up.
I was thinking about moving them in to smaller plastic bin...
But if they grow quick, I guess I have to deal with it for while??
