I have a silkie hen named momma...

she is sitting on 3 eggs now and has been for about 3 - 4 days.

I just candled the eggs and there was a "mass" in each egg, but not like veins or anything like the pics in the sticky note.

i then candled eggs from the same set of chickens that have been sitting in the fridge for about a week or so..and they are definitely different. There is no mass in the fridge eggs

i am assuming that the eggs under momma are fertile

I have gone through all the stickys and even through nifty's page and my eggs look like day one of niftys but mine are on about day 3 - 4

should I just trust the instinct of a broody silkie and leave them there?...or toss them cause they dont look like they have progressed?

how long before they stink if they are not fertile?

thanks

i thought about takin pics AFTER we put the eggs back under her...I was going to candle again on friday when we are defiantly past the 7 day mark

one of the eggs is 3 - 4
one is 2 - 3
last is 1 - 2

I never candle until day 7 so wait until then, candle again. I have hatched "fridge" eggs before. You really can't see much at 3-4 days. They won't start stinking for 2 weeks. After that, get them out if you don't see a mass or they may explode all over "mama."

thanks i will try and post pics next week

It's hard enough to candle let alone get a picture of it.

Candle this Wednesday. If you don't see anything then toss them.

Did you ever get a reply about your silkie sitting on eggs, because I have one that is doing the same thing, and I don't think the eggs are fertile.

Thanks, Gram
