I will think twice before I ever give my geese a clutch of eggs again. They had 7 eggs and hatched out two goslings. 2 of the goslings shrink wrapped, one egg was cracked and I have two of the eggs in my bator right now. 2 hatched out just fine, a male and a female.
The entire process was extremely hard on my geese. They are so beat up and straggly looking it makes me sad. The gander started sitting on eggs 10 days before the females did so I had a gosling hatch last week and then another a few days ago. The ones that shrink wrapped hatched today. They abandoned the nest with two eggs still in it so I put them in my bator. I figure they are DIS but I am going to candle them tonight and toss if they have not internally pipped. The nest began to stink last week, it didn't smell of a dead gosling but the smell was of very strong urine. If you have ever incubated and hatched out goslings you KWIM.
UGGH I have pulled the nest, the dead goslings and all that stink out and put it in the burn pile. I am so glad they are off that nest!!! I put four of their eggs in my bator and hatched out four eggs on 4/4. It was much easier to just hatch them myself.
I have to admit though it is super cute watching the geese with the goslings. They had them out for the first time today. Still I think I will incubate myself from now on.
