One of the biggest problems is that most of these eggs in incubators are shipped. I can hatch 95% at home and only about 30-40% on shippeds even though I only buy eggs from people I trust. Then I hear that my eggs aren't doing well somewhere else, when my niece hatched some in a shoe box with a lightbulb.

I just don't know of any other was to really get birds you want from somewhere far away. I have paid to ship an adult bird once and it cost me $70 and then died a week after it was here from the stress and climate change I'm sure. I hear horror stories of whole batches of day old chicks comming in dead... I dunno... what to do, what to do?

But my best luck yet has still been with hatching eggs. My last were Black Copper Marans, got 8 eggs and 4 hatched... one very correct cockerel and three very nice pullets... Sweet! as my teens would say. I still hear from people who get my eggs that 13 of 14 or 12 of 13 hatched... and I sit around and wonder what was different than the poor person who just got one of 18.

Hope these do GREAT!

I hope so, too. And you are right about the traveling eggs. I told my friend that she had an amazing hatch rate, but that my eggs did travel all the way from Texas!

The candling was promising. Quite a few live babies in there!! Just a few days left!! I am really hoping that having the broody on them gives me a better shot than if I was trying to control all the variables myself. The weather here is great and my broody is happy and mean, just the way she should be.

Love the pics of Lavender and Cattie!!! Very sweet!

I can get my dogs to ignore the chickens outside... I can get my dogs and cats to ignore each other in the house.... but there's no way I'll ever get my cats to ignore my tasty chickens! LOL

Well i went out to the coop agen. and she was in a dif nest box! The same bird that was in her nest was still in it. So i took the eggs from under her and but them under pearl. And then pearl lays an egg. So i dont know if she was broody in the first place! I will post on here wen i know for sure if she is broody. But i put 5 eggs under her and she took them all and she all redy hade a egg under her and then she layd one so that makes 7 eggs that she is siting on. And what sounds do broody hens make when they are off the nest eating and stuff? Thanks agen for all of your help! I will post tomorrow and tell you if i think she is broody or not.

I don't think your hen is broody if she is still laying eggs or if she won't stay on the eggs.
Some hens think about being broody, but then give it up after a few days or even weeks.
The noise they make is just the noise a broody makes.
The other hens pick on her, because they think she is acting weird.

My BR went broody this past weekend, and I've got 12 mutt eggs under her. I'm considering buying the BBS silkie eggs I want, and switching them out...

So as of now, the mutts are due on the 22nd. If I switch eggs out, I'll update.

Well not to be mean but i hope you are wrong! LOL I what her to be broody so bad!!!
