Has that "other" bird been sitting on the nest the entire time? Perhaps that's the one you want the eggs under.

No, no. THIS is fun!!! If you want to see stress, go read the threads where people are trying to use incubators!! I have followed some of those threads and those folks are freaking out, worried about the humidity, the turning thing that stopped working, the temperature that changed for some unknown reason, it's day 23 and no pips or peeps. THAT sounds stressful!! I would never sleep!!!
No, the broody doing all the work? Not so stressful. Fun!! And it is like someone said, like waiting for Christmas!!

Just enjoy the process, and watch nature at work.

Thanks for the encouragement and you are absolutely right. I sometimes have to resist the urge to post a pic of my broody cochin hen when people post a topic like "Show me a pic of your 'bator", lol. I am just thinking that the Buff Orp eggs aren't going to turn out...I may candle again tomorrow and if I don't see anything, I'm tossing them so she can concentrate on the others.

Update! Ok well i went out to the coop and she was siting by the nest cuz a leghorn was in her nest. So i got that one out and Pearl went right back in the nest! YEAH! So i hope she is broody! I am sorry for the weirdness. Ether she cant make up her mind or she ceeps geting booted out of her nest.

So do you think i should move her to night or tomorow?

Day 6 - Tango, my broody cuckoo marans, is happily ensconced on 7 bc marans eggs. Due around the 19th. It will be the first time for both of us - so I 'm nervous and anxious and excited. Planning on candling either tomorrow or Friday.

Day 2 - Iris, my broody blue wyandotte is all settled on her shipment of eggs. I ordered 3 SL wyandottes... and got 3 freebies, and I ordered 4 GL cochins... and got 2 freebies! So this girl is unexpectedly sitting on a nest full of 12 eggs! It is her first time, too, but she seems to be just fine. I moved her water closer so she can drink without leaving the nest (did that yesterday for Tango.).

My kids crack up when I wake them up in the morning with "It is day SIX!!!!"... they love me, but think I've gone off the deep end. Maybe I have... last night I spent about three hours drawing up my "dream" chicken compound. When I was done, it looked remarkably like a stable! Uh, oh!

Good Luck~

I moved my broody tonight. She's on day 4, and had still been in the most popular nesting box. I found 3 extra eggs in with her today, and one of the ones I'd set under her was broken and eaten.

So she's in a wire dog kennel inside the coop, with a cardboard box nest. She didn't seem happy about the move, but hopefully she'll take to it by morning. Cross your fingers for us.

We're down to 11 mutt eggs.

I'm trying to get my hands on some good BBS silkie eggs to swap out with her. If I keep 3 of the eggs she's already got (EE cross eggs), and let them hatch out still, probably a week earlier than the silkie eggs, will she still set the silkie eggs if I take out the early-hatch babies?
