This girl so deserves her babies! She has been sitting now for 21+21= 42 days...She so deserves these babies!!!!!!!!!! Her 1st 21 days she was on 7 eggs...As day and day went by and I candled most eggs were TOO old. Her lone egg made it to 22 days and it died in the shell and never piped it piped the air sac but not the egg. I gave her 10 more eggs and by day 18 she was down to 4. I had no hope for these eggs period due to they was in the mail for 7 days and the day I recieved them my electric was off due to the Ice storm.so they sit in my cold house for 3 days untill I put them on a heating pad on the 3rd day they was on a heating pad for 3 days before I placed them under my broody girl. So Its amazing that ALL 4 have pips. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

What a story. What a good mommy. I may have missed it but what breed is she?

She is a Grey Silkie. There is a picture of her on the last post on Pg15

My Wyandotte pullet must've pushed one of her two eggs out, because this morning the egg from the Phoenix/Welsummer was sitting in the brooder about six inches from the nest and the egg was cold. I pushed it back, but if she discards it again, I guess I know for sure she has a purpose.

mine pushed one out, i took it in and but it in the bator then two days before hatch i took it and others do the same day and set them under her. then i found on, that had pipped and she smashed, out of the nest. i thought for sure it was dead, very cold and not moving. i put it back under her and all of them hatched.
my mom said to me "so much for watching temps and humidity and going crazy...."

So, it is day 8 for our eggs. We could candle if we want to. Many people do at this time, right?

I am thinking --- not. I think we might just wait and let the chicks fall where they may.

I have read about the ones that explode and ruin the rest? Does this happen often? Is this why people candle?

What do you think?

thats a good question. my girl is sitting on 4 for 7 days so far. she started with 6, kicked one out, and the other day there was another one on the floor outside of her nest.

it was stone cold when we found it so instead of taking the chance of it not being good instead of putting it back we did an autopsy and it looked like it started to develop. we felt bad but we didn't want it to explode under her since she had kicked it out. i don't know.

we are doing our best to stay out of it and let nature take its course.
we didn't even know she was broody until it was too late so we got eggs from a friend's farm to put under her in hopes it would work. we make sure she gets some food and water in every day but other than that we leave her alone to do her thing. good luck with your hatch.

Yes, you could candle now. The only reason I did was to see if any of the eggs were even fertile and because there was so many. I was able to tell that 6 or 7 weren't doing anything so I got them out of her way. When I opened them, I found one had started to develop although not very much. At least the others have more room now.
