I don’t want to buy from a hatchery if I can help it. I’d rather get in touch with a breeder. Breeders are much more interested in seeing other enthusiasts succeed than hatcheries are

I can't help you then. Half of my flock came from hatcheries, amd the people I got my original ones from don't raise birds anymore

Depends on the breeder. Because you can get junk from them too. Also some are hung up on rarity.

I would reach out to the ones posting eggs on ebay. Also search Facebook.

There are also Yokohamas. They can come in all the colors of the Phoenix as well. There is a seller of them currently on ebay. Differences are comb and leg color but they have the same disposition as Phoenix. I almost went with them for my project but decided against it because of the yellow legs.
