Brooding Barred Rock hen attacking rooster. Why?

but died shortly after due to a "twin" that was attached to its thigh (I think I'm scarred for life after seeing that).
Oh, so you probably didn't take any pics to post.....I would love to see that, would be more fascinated than grossed out.

My hens let me take there chicks and give them back without incident
Mine do too, but only because I work them up to letting me touch them thru the setting by touching them almost daily.

No, I'm sorry. I almost threw up when I found the poor thing. I just had my husband bury it somewhere nice in the yard.

I tried touching when I added some extra food on the ground. They all came running to peck at the food. She didn't seem bothered by me touching one but I didn't pick it up. Just a little pet on it's back, I might try again later to pick on up and see if I can tell it's gender.
