Brooding cages

If you want to do a fall thru type system, have you considered cutting the bottom out of a large plastic tote, and replacing it with hardware cloth? I use different sizes for my brooders, I like to limit the area so they can’t wander to far and get cold and not make it back in the first day or 2. However if you want to use the same one for small chicks and larger chicks, maybe you can put 1/2 inch on the bottom of the bin and 1/4 on the lid, and use it upside down the in the beginning. You can put a door on the side, I ordered replacement rat cage panels, bent them straight and attached them to my brooders. You can stack them by making your own shelving from wood or pvc, or you could buy wire shelves with wide spacing and put the cage on top, with the catch pan below. The benefit of wire shelves is you can adjust the distance between the cage and catch pan easily by adjusting the shelf heights.
