Hi there,
I am a first timer with brooding rhode island red and she has been on what I thought was only 3 eggs but has had more in past week. She has been on them for 17 days and we finally took her off so she could move around, her box stunk and one egg is cracked and oozing so is this rotten?? We cleaned her box, fed her and let her walk around a bit and now she it back on them, we did move her and eggs over one box, is this ok?

Yes it is rotten. Throw it away. If she's sitting on the eggs in the new nest then it's fine. Just be aware that if you have eggs under her at different ages she will not hatch them all. Once the first chick has hatched she will stay on the nest for another day or so then she will abandon the remaining ones to take care of her live chicks. I hope this helps. You should also try candleing the eggs to check for viable eggs.

Ok thank you! It's my favorite hen's egg that is cracked, just want to be sure

If the bad egg leaked on to the others, the bacteria can contaminate them as well.

It was good to move her & eggs to a new nest that is clean. Hope you have a successful hatch. :yesss:

Thank you, this morning she rolled 2 eggs out of box, does this mean they are bad?
