Guys would this type of thing work for brooding ducklings?
Yes and no. For a few ducklings it would work for a short time. Duckling grow fast and the would outgrow this in a short time. I think this would be great for quail. I guess I'm a bit of a tightwad. I do not know what this costs but am sure there are better alternatives that would be useable for more than a few weeks at a time.
I agree, ducklings grow fast. This *would* work for them, but only for a short time and I'd be really worried about them snuggling up to the heat plate while wet (and believe me, they'll get WET). If you plan to use it to brood other fowl after the ducklings outgrow it, it'll be worth the expense. If not, then I think no. Anyway, a good old heat lamp or ceramic heat emitter might be better for this situation. I'd normally recommend the mama heating pad/brooder cave thing, but again, WET.
I use a heat lamp for my ducklings. Good luck.
Thanks. I was thinking it looked a little cramped, had forgotten about the getting wet part! Not sure if I fancy the heat plate thing it says it can be raised but as you say I'd get much more use out of a heat lamp!
