Hi all, I have a young Ayam Cemani hen about 7 months old, just started laying about a month ago, and she is broody! Been sitting on about 6 eggs for two days now. I have never had a hen this young go broody. It's still pretty cold here, with night temps dipping down into 20's and 30's. Has anyone ever had a hen successfully hatch a clutch this early in the year with cold weather? Any pointers or advice here? Thanks!

I'm just gonna let her sit and see what happens, she's in the coop in a good spot, so hopefully it will be fine, thanks for the info!

Those temperatures will have no effect on your broody and her eggs.
So in a couple weeks it will be very close to spring (at least where i am)
And baby chicks would be fine at that time. Moma hen would keep them warm regardless.
Alot depends on your individual set up though.
Do you have room for more chickens?
How is your coop set up?
Does it have ramps or is it chick friendly?
Have you done this before and know what to expect?
Half will be roosters, do you have a plan for those later?
Hey, i see you are new, welcome to the backyard!

Yes, I have raised chicks before, new coop with ramps, ladders, etc.....just never had a hen this young go broody and never this early in the year......thanks for the welcome!

They should be fine...should be much warmer in 3 weeks.
Had broody set in middle of a frigid winter, I don't recommend, it but it worked out just fine.

As to her being young, might want to wait until she sits tight 23/7 for a few more days before giving her fresh fertile eggs?

Well, she has about 8 eggs under her, and I have two roosters so I'm assuming they are fertile. I'm just gonna let her do her thing.....thanks!
