Broke my silkie from being broody about 3 weeks ago. She's the smallest of our flock but bosses everyone around, the kids love it/her.

Days are getting shorte and no sign of her going back to lay.

Is there a general period of time it takes them to get back to laying?

Hens will normally mother a clutch of chickens anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks long then she will drive her babies out into the big cruel world and return to lay. In the fall she may take several months vacation before she decides to stop her featherbedding and get back to work.
