I just got some really important eggs shipped in and I have the good fortune of having a broody Silkie out in the barn. I want to be sure that the hatch goes well even though it's gonna be January in New England. I built this little "insurance policy for my broody. It's a nestbox made of 1" sawmill pine lined with 3/4" thick dense foam insulation. This is probably as close to being half broody and half incubator as you can get.

May I ask where in New England you are ?

Now that is just GREAT THINKING... I'm wishing my broody's nest were lined with styrofoam, even here in Phoenix... where it got down to 29 yesterday early.

Thanks for the replys. I think it should work just fine. She really is enjoying her new setup.

Muscovy94, these eggs are some Welsummers that I had been waiting a long time to get from a breeder that has really super dark egglayers.

swtangel321, I'm located in RI, out on the coast. The temp and humidity swings out here can be mindboggling.
