Broody behaviour

They can go broody any time exept for winter usually. Most of mine don't go broody till late may, early June

I live in the north Idaho, america. We have a colder climate here. I've got a broody hen now & the weather is still cool, 30-40 degrees at night & 50-70 during the days. My chickens have gone broody in spring (May-June) as well as late summer (Aug-Sept). Odd as it is, they do well even as the cooler/colder weather starts in Sept-Oct here.

@Rare Did you ever lay 4-6 fake eggs in the nestbox in April or May where you want a hen to sit?
Works well for me when I want one to become broody.
Should i leave in nest box or in different/new nest box?

If you want the hen to breed undisturbed, it’s best to put her in a different coop away from the others.

But my hens like to become broody in their normal laying nest. And it’s not a good idea to change places during the breeding period.
If she gets disturbed a lot, I close of that area and make another temporary nestbox for the other hens to lay their eggs.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. Observe and make your own choice.
