Broody Blue Orpington..Gave Her Day 16 Bator Eggs HATCHED/ PICs

Quote:
Thank god you posted this. I have my first broody hen and shes sitting on 5 bbs orpintong eggs. I went out yesterday and their are all these feathers all over the nest. I was worried something was wrong. Whew! Now if I could keep her from stealing my bbr's eggs she'd be great! lol (I need to move her but the new pen area is not finished, hopefully it will be later this week)

See, this has been my question. I don't understand how a hen can keep a whole bunch of eggs at 99.5 plus the correct humidity. Those eggs can't possibly have the contant correct temp??? Why does someone hatching eggs in the bator need so much control over this stuff.
I'll see very soon. I'm trying to hatch 6 EE eggs. They are due on 3/25.

They were sent to me by "luvmychicks".

A normal chicken body temp is about 102, so the eggs are probably at the perfect range a couple of degrees below that. I let my bator range between 98.8 and 101, so I dont keep it at exactly 99.5. Good luck with your hatch, Sandy.

My broody is on Day 20 today. She is meaner than usual, pecking very hard when DH reaches in (I can't reach her myself). Finally, she did pluck some of the breast feathers or either, DH didnt feel the right place--that girl is extremely fluffy. Anyway, I bet we'll have some babies before the end of the day.

I won't be able to stop myself from posting pics! Hey,nhnanna, you were on my stand by list for Orps, and I havent forgotten, but right now, I have only one hen giving me fertile eggs. Seems things just keep happening to prevent me from getting these eggs to people! If only Dusty had not gone broody...

Went to check on Dusty. I thought I heard that cracking sound eggs make when the chick pushes and breaks a piece. My DH came and tried to reach under her. Dusty went all psycho-broody, pecking with some force for the first time We heard a peep, so we are certain that there is at least one baby under her, but didn't see it or find the shell. She is acting like she has something to defend now! Will check on our little mama later on.

She's my first REAL broody with the beak to prove it! Sunny, Olivia, Glenda and Nugget were sweet broodies who didn't mind us reaching under them or doing anything at all with the babies. Not Miss Dusty! Oh, no, she makes me wonder where I left my gloves, LOL.
