Broody Buff Orpington

Whhhooooaaaa!!
Nice!
I leave her in the run....more space, fresh air...just protect against sun, rain, and wind.
Is that back wall solid or a fence beyond the run?

Thank you!! The sides are 1/4” hardware cloth. In this pic we had a piece of metal up to block the north wind in winter. It’s open now. It won’t get sun but I can block the rain from getting to her.

In your setup I'd definitely put the broody breaker in the run, as that's where the others will spend the most time (because you never want to deal with reintegration unless you have to). Unless weather is super bad I wouldn't even bother trying to weatherproof the broody breaker.

I don't have them roost either, they stay in the breaker round the clock until I decide they're broken enough to come out to test them for broken/not broken.

I have had good luck breaking a broody hen by putting them in a plastic dog crate, the airline type, without bedding. With food and water. In the run. Three or four days in there and she is fine.

Looks like 1/2" vinyl clad.
Do you have a coop page or a build thread showing the whole coop.
It really is fantastic.

I think you are correct, we upgraded the wire to 1/2” black vinyl covered wire. We purchased it from a local shed company - we found the design/builder on thehenhousecollection.com and used the local distributor. It is a Quaker Combination 7’x18’ (7x6 coop with a 7x18 run) with a few upgrades: metal insulated roof, vinyl floor in coop, we changed the swing on the doors, added the cupola, etc. It was not inexpensive (unfortunately) but I couldn’t find a resale and we had just moved and had no time to DIY. But I LOVE it! And so do my girls! These are old pics from when we first got it.

Was hoping to locate our wire dog crate, couldn’t find one. First day in the Caroline crate is today! Hope she breaks soon!

Did you wait until she laid an egg? How did you know when your girl was ready to get out of jail?
