Broody chickens

the rooster barley does anything, when a hen is broody she will sit on fertile or non fertile eggs a rooster will help make her eggs fertile (non fertile eggs will NOT hatch) what kind of pictures do you want to describe this?
Here is what I typically see when rooster plays a role in nest site selection. This guy and hen with him disturbed by about 10 city slickers following them around. This guy not broody yet.

i am confused is that a ....... broody rooster lol :)
He becomes so later. Sequence in video all roosters do when a hen coming into lay produces a particular sound when she is looking for a nest site. I know it is sound because roosters will do it for a hen they cannot see.

i dont get it is he siting on eggs or ........ what is he doing (laugh)
He is advertising a potential nest site. The rooster typically has an idea on what make for good nest sites in his territory. Part of his courtship sequence to attract a new hen is to impress her with nest site options. He also advertises his health using the sounds and effort invested in the scratching. Roosters in poor condition put on less of a show. Roosters with poor quality territories often do not have good nest sites to show off.

do your roosters do that ( mine doesn't )
I bet you money he does, you just have not seen it yet. It is one of the rarer behaviors that still happen. Once the hen selects a nest site for a particular broody cycle, the rooster stops his little show; that is unless another hen needs a nest site in his realm.
