Click here to hear Gerry <- I’ve attached a Tik Tok link for you to see how congested Gerry is. 😭

Hi all my poor Gerry, an 11month old Pekin Bantam is broody and SICK!! I have started her on antibiotics (Baytril) and she is still eating, she’s still pooping (solid, dark green) and she’s still broody!! (Search latest video).

Is there anything else I can do aside from quarantining and feeding her medication on top of food?

I know you are supposed to ‘break’ the brood by giving them an empty crate, but because she is so chesty and congested I feel that would be counterintuitive? As from my understanding, sick birds need to help keep warm? I’m so confused!!

Thank you to everyone who helped with my Dotty on my last post. Unfortunately she passed away, the the new vet believed it was Marek’s disease 😢

Thank you!

Many of us don't have TikTok, including me. You can post a video in YouTube or our gallery (tab above), then paste the link here.

Green poop can mean emaciation, in other words, not eating.

Broodies can make themselves sick if they're broody for long periods of time, thus why many of ours break ours.

Yes, I would keep her where she's warm and undisturbed. I would make her some mash with chick crumbles and give her vitamin water. The vitamins will help her build back up. We use Poultry Cell or Nutri-Drench. I don't give antibiotics until I see no improvement after a couple of days as many times a vitamin boost will help them heal themselves.

After she's done with the antibiotics, be sure to put her on some probiotics for a couple of weeks. That can be powders in water or Greek yogurt is good. She could have around a tablespoon of that per day, but only after the antibiotics are done.
