Broody duck

I feel like this is the best choice, I would love for her to hatch a couple but shes collected far more than we could manage. Will she be upset for long? X
I feel like it varies with each individual duck. One time my two ducks collected quite the pile and both tried incubating it at the same time. I just let them since the eggs were infertile, thinking they would give up eventually. But after 5 weeks they did not give up! So I took the eggs one day and they didn't seem to care.

But my other duck gets upset. She looks for the eggs and makes this particular, "where's my egg?" peepy noise. Usually only for an hour or so. But then sometimes over the next few days she'll go back to that same spot and look for it again and make the peepy noise. Then she'll remember she needs to go swimming and off she'll go!

Thankyou, I lured her off nest with peas and took them but I left her a couple. If they hatch then great, we could keep them, I just thought she'd feel better having a few left. I candled the ones I took and they hadn't developed so I dont feel too guilty x

I had one go broody with unfertilized eggs. I sent my spouse into their house and had him carefully take her eggs away while she watched and he delicately place them in a basket and left with them. All the while he told her he was going to take great care of them and she accepted his being the new mom to her babies.

(do I need to say we raised these from 1 day old ducklings and they lived much of their childhood tucked in his shirt collar? he is dad and like all little girls with good dads, they trust and adore him)

Tell her you'll take good care of her eggs, and don't steal them when she isn't looking.

As soon as he left with the eggs she ran out to the pond to have fun with her sister. Motherhood is a drag ;) more fun to go play in the sun with the other single girls.
