Broody Hen and Dave

Hi all
Dave the Rooster is King of the roost with 17 hens in his harem. He “does his thing” quite regularly with whomever he catches up with. I found this week that I now have a broody hen who is sitting on her eggs as well as several other eggs she gathered.

In your opinion do you think at least a couple of the eggs will be fertile? Or do you think that’s too many hens for Dave?

Get ready for chicks. Hens can retain fertility from a single mating for up to 3 weeks. As long as Dave is spreading his lovin' around they should be fertile. You might want to candle after a week or so to determine development.
