Broody hen attacked by another hen/ added pics

Her eyes are still shut today. She moves around alot sand when she knows I'm in the room she stands. I don't think she sees me at all but she knows when I get close and tries to move away when I go to pick her up or just get close enough to check her.

Still won't drink on her own. Although she's not as red today she still looks bad.

I'm not sure if her eyes are damaged or not. Last night it looked like the one was starting to open, but today it looks like it did when this first happened.

If she loses her sight, I'm not sure what to do with her. I don't know if she'll work her way back in with the flock or not.

Right now, she's making little clucking noises like she does to call the chicks. She heard some 4 day olds in a broader box and I'm wondering if she's trying to mother them, because they are extra noisy this morning.

She still pretty swollen, but it's gone down a lot concidering her head was almost twice the size this time yesterday.

Even though she's acting like she's alright otherwise I'm just so upset about her head. She's such a pretty girl. I keep thinking about my 13 year old grand daughter who named her. She acts about her ever time I see or talk to her. When she first saw her she asked if she could name one of the new chickens and pointed her out, saying she like the way she liked like her neck was the sun, so that's where the name came from.

I'm trying to get these new pics to go through from my phone. I took some more shots, so I hope they show up better.

Hope this shows up better.

She's been pecking starter, so that's a plus

Don't give up hope. Several years ago I came home from work and noticed that one of the hens was missing. I looked around and finally found her hiding. He head actually looked worse than your photos. I called a vet. She wouldn't see her, but suggested I give her a tiny fraction of a baby asprin for pain (I only did this once or twice), and to put the antibiotic ointment on her (which I did twice a day), and also to make sure she eats. A hen that can't see won't eat, because it doesn't know where to peck. I kept her in a bathtub lined with newspaper. I dipped her beak in water, in yogurt, and whatever else I had around. I think I fed her cat food too. Scrambled eggs and bits of fruit are big hits.
Wrap her in a towel and (it takes some practice) hold a beak sized portion of food between your finger and thumb, meanwhile gently pry the beak open with your fingers of your other hand and push the food in. I did this with my hen at least 3 times a day. Sometimes I'd hold a small container with food in it up to her beak and she would start eating spontaneously, but she would quickly become frustrated and would appear depressed if she pecked where she thought the contaner would be and missed.

Evantually she did heal, although her comb turned black and fell off, and there were areas where her feathers never grew back and there was just red scar tissue. She would have never won a beauty pagent, but went on to become one of my best layers ever. And I too, thought her eyes were damaged, because it was weeks until they even oepened. But her eyes themselves were fine. Her one eyelid was damaged and only would open about 2/3 of the way, bur she adapted just fine.

I thinkin her case, the rooster I had ripped her skin at the back of her head and then everyone just saw the blood and had a free-for-all.

Must be the full moon. I came home today to find my RRI hen (that has 3 babies of her own) had beat up my little black austrolorp hen who was sitting on 7 eggs. She destroyed all but 2 of the eggs as well. They were due to start hatching next week. The little black austrolorp doesnt have 1 feather left on her head and her head is swollen, however, her eyes dont seem to be affected. I feel so bad because I had made a protective crate to put around this little hen bcuz she was being constantly pulled off her nest by this same hen. Obviously I am not much of a carpenter because she was able to 'break in' to the crate. I'm just sick. I was wondering about the swelling myself and if there was anything I could do to bring it down. I hope she will be alright. Right now she is inside a large dog crate inside the henhouse with a towel over the door and windows hopefully to help her rest. My husband had just said yesterday, "when you're raising chickens and one of them causes this much trouble you kill it and eat it." Yesterday that horrified me...today I gave it a little thought. She has 3 babies that are a month old. That's the only reason she's not dead right now.

Lately she has been a real problem.

We she is eating and when I tried to give her water of course she threw a fit and knocked it out of my hand. Then she felt it near her feet and started drinking.

The one eye opens once in a while, but I think if it's too light, it bothers her. She can hear her babies outside and has been having a fit. She keeps calling them. I just got back from HD and they gave me some boards from the cutting area. Usually they are from $.51 to $4.01, but they know I'm broke and grab what I can, when I can, so they guy walked me to the cashier and instead of marking the boards he told her to get them to me free. I don't have anything but chick wire and some of that plastic net stuff, but I'm going to try to make just a small pen for now and see if she's ok with the chicks. I was going to just auction them off on monday, but she's trying to get to them, so I figure if they gon't hurt her, it might be less stressful for her to get them back.

I know who my culprate is. My Games are usually very sweet. Sweeter than most of my other breeds, especially those wacky Silkies. I just don't get what started this. One was missing yesterday. Same one who when she tried to go broody, they chase her a way from the boxes. So the one other broody has a couple of spots where I know she got into it with someone, but my runaway was back this morning. Her comb is ragged and she's missing a few head fearhers. Poor Sunshine has a bald head and so swollen she looks like a turkey. So the other hen either got too close to the chicks and the hens got her, but since she hasn't been sitting on eggs and weakened she had more strength. She's stay clear of everyone today. Especially Pierre.

I'm so proud of Pierre BTW. The people next door hear from the son about him protecting Sunshine, so they sent him over corn from their garden and asked what else he would eat. The were really surprised when my 5 yr old grand daughter scooped his big 12lb butt up and carried him around. I guess he's getting a following around here. Two neighbors I have never met said they heard what happened and wanted to see if he was really as big and sweet as they heard. No visitors though. I've had birds stolen and the less amount of people to be here the better.

One of the Game girls got into the run last year with my Marans and my bigger roo, mounted her and hurt her. The hens then attacked her and her head was pretty bad. She also had a very hard time walking for a long time. It took a couple of months, but she is out there now. Matter of fact she is either one of the broodies or she's the trouble maker from yesterday, although she is usually the mellowest since she sprnt so much time inside. Sunshine look worse, but she's actually moving around and even got loose this afternoon. I'm more concerned with her eyes than anything, so if they are alright, it's just a matter of her wounds healing completely before she goes out in the general population.
