This is Zelda my sons serama. She's always broody. She'll hatch an emu egg if you gave her one. Once she went broody on a hen that already set a clutch of eggs.

Here is a photo collage of my daughter's baby chicks last fall. This was our broody's first time being a mama. She gets broody every 4 weeks, I swear! After continually breaking her broodiness, I was struck by her sadness and was reminded of my years of infertility, medical treatments, pregnancy loss, and hopes and prayers for a baby.

I ordered her babies the next day, and we stuck them under her the night they got here. She took to them right away (she is a cochin, after all!) and we loved seeing the babies grow. We have more coming for her in a few weeks, and she is just starting to go broody again... perfect timing!

Enjoy!

This is one of my hens with some of her eggs hatched. See the 3 little heads. You can tell that she is telling me to leave her and her babies alone.

You might remember these guys... they are the second post on this thread. They are now two weeks old and free ranging (supervised of course) with their White Rock Mom. She has been a great mother!

Girtrud, the girls of my family gave her that name, is about 2 years old and has never been broody, let alone any of my other girls. That is what makes this experience very cool. She hatched 4 out of 5 eggs and was very loyal to the nest. She hatched them out yesterday.
