Broody hen eating her own eggs?

She looks so sweet. I love rir. It is probably my favorite breed. Even though I haven't had one go broody, they lay a ton of eggs and are friendly. I don't like barred rocks. They are ok, but don't really excel in any category. They lay a decent number of eggs and they are not aggressive. I actually have 2 that are 5 years old. And over the summer, they were each laying an egg every other day. But they just don't stand out as special.

I know what you mean I have a RIR that is sweet and a black australorp who is sweet, the rest are okay but not too friendly close. The bestest one for me is the black australorp/RIR mix..she is black with red on her chest..follows me everywhere :)

I have never had a black Australorp. They don't seem as common in my area. I would like to try them. Especially since you said they are friendly.

They are..they are stand offish if you get them and don't handle them, but they are not mean...barred rocks chase others but don't hurt them... If you handle them they are sweet. My BA pecks on my shoe if I ignore her and she wants to be picked up. When I do that, my buck nibbles at my pants telling me to put her down and pay attention to him LOL

Question... how long before I can put the hen with her two new chicks in a bigger fenced area that's safe and has shelter? How old do the chicks need to be since they will be hen raised?

As long as it is a good safe place that the chicks can't get away from. They cam go there now

Okay, I think there is one egg left that I need to check if it will hatch..then I can move them. It's a 12ft x 12ft dog kennel with chicken wire all around the bottom so the chicks won't get out. and I have a huge plastic container cut out with hay in it for them to go into.
