Broody hen, how many eggs?

Don't overstress over a chick being 2 feet high. I've seen a broody get chicks out of a ten foot high hay loft. Mama say jump and they do. There is a video going around where one hatchery kind of shoots the babies off a conveyor belt. I've seen broodies catch a chick when they are scratching and send the chick head over heels. Those chicks have been fine. It is always possible they might get hurt, but them jumping out of a two feet high nest would be real low on my worry list.

The biggest worry about that would be to watch where the broody wants the chicks to sleep. Most of the time, mine keep them on the floor in a corner of the coop. But I had one that wanted the chicks to get up to the nest, which was maybe 12" to 14" high. Most made it but a couple could not the first night. I had to help them.

LOL, that is funny! Maybe I should get MAran eggs, then I would know if they tried that lol

I have seen a hen move eggs from one nesting box to another. They are sneaky buggers!

I have a six year old Silkie x OEGB (I think) who is a medium-small bantam, very broody. I'm going to put eggs under her on Friday. My incubator will be full but there are many other eggs I want to hatch - debating how many to put under her.

I want to hatch 3-4 full size/large Easter Egger eggs...but I also want to hatch as many of my bantam eggs as I can. They come in 2 sizes - both are pretty small.

I've considered using my other Silkie mix, but she doesn't go broody as often (I think she MIGHT if I offered her a nest) and she doesn't lay anymore, unlike her sister. I only have 1 dog crate, as well.

Trying to figure out how many of what eggs to put under 1 hen, or whether I should try 2 hens.
