Broody hen in first laying season and fall???

I block off all of the nests before I bring her in from the cage an hour or so before roost time. Of course, she's been sleeping on the floor of the coop, but I don't feel safe leaving her out there overnight.

Thanks. I guess we'll try that tonight and get out early enough to let the others lay in the am if they want to.

Does your tractor have a wire floor? The reason I ask is I'm pretty sure it's important to the process that there is no way for her to sit down comfortably, and also it's supposed to help her belly stay cooler which I hear is also also important.

Yes, it has no floor. I made it out of leftovers from my husband's extensive wood collection. You lift it with handles to move it around and plop it down over grass in the yard.

Ok. If you catch her laying down a bunch in there, then you might think about getting her elevated above the grass. Best of luck! My current broody has done 4 days in the cage, and doesn't look like she's ready to give it up yet. Fingers crossed!

Yes, as we moved the tractor I thought about that! I'll keep an eye on her.

I'm no expert at breaking broody chickens, this is only my second time to do it. Right now my broody is in her cage under the tree and it's raining. She hates getting wet, and she's looking a bit ticked off. Maybe it's just what she needs to cool her off. Lol!

Your routing too soon. :( Next box over IS what my broody's do when they get kicked out by another girl! :old

Do you mean I moved her out too soon? She changed boxes after I blocked the entrance her favorite box.
