Broody Hen - its a MIRACLE!

bring some of the leaves back, maybe that will help.
Or when I moved mine, I bribed her with BOSS, maybe that would distract her enough to settle back down.

I go from desperately wanting chicks....to chicks comin' out my ears! HAHA!

Hopefully when its dark she'll settle. Mine was really freaked out when I moved her. I confined her to a 2 sq ft space with her nest so she had no other place to sit, and she did settle after a while.

Also, after a couple of days when she's settled well on those eggs, maybe you could candle them at night and thin them out some of the bad ones so she has a more reasonable number to sit on.

Hoping for the best for you.

That's a great idea. I guess I'll shoot for day 7 maybe and candle then. Honestly, she's never been overly friendly so it'll be interesting!

I turned out the barn light, so that will maybe settle her down. I'll go out right before bed and check on her again.

If this clutch doesn't work, will she go broody again? Or have I just broke her of it?

Who knows!?

Chickens are all different. If she had 2 dozen eggs in that nest though she's been planning this for a while.

Only time will tell. How old is she? I think a lot of chickens go broody this time of year. If she's a year old you might see her do this every spring. One thing's for sure, life is always interesting with chickens.

Ain't that the truth?!?!

I've always wanted one to go broody and never had one do it. Looks like the girls all got together and designated her to sit on ALL of their eggs - she's sitting on some of everyones. I think they are plotting against me!

She's right at one year old. Hatched last April, early in the month.

Writer, that is just amazing!!!

I just checked on her again, and she'd moved off of them. I moved her back and locked her in. I'm hoping she'll continue to set, but if not, oh well. I thought she was dead, so I'm just glad to have her back!

Sounds like you in controll now. Im sorry too about the hen you lost. wonder what happened to her.
