Broody Hen - its a MIRACLE!

She's sitting on them! I went out around 10pm last night and she'd roosted elsewhere, so I moved her onto the eggs and blocked her in. It worked, because I went out early this morning and offered to let her out and she stayed seated all day! She was off of the eggs for a few hours but I feel like it is so early on that they'll be ok? IDK - never done it this way before! Also, there are some eggs that won't fit under her. I'll candle in a few days and toss if necessary.

I'm suspecting loose cat or dog - she was punctured but totally intact - I feel like anything else (skunk, etc.) would have left more of a mess??

So glad to hear you were able to safely move her and her nest!! I will be watching this post to see if any of them hatch! Best of luck to you and your flock!!

That is probably true. A skunk or fox would have left more of a mess or even taken the body like a fox would. Strictly for food.

A dog or cat may have just been playing.

What a shame. I let mine loose too, and live on quit road but one hen still happened to go out on the road and get hit. Maybe the driver did it on purpose. I'll never know.

Well, she's still sitting!

I believe we're on about day 7. At what point (or should I) try to candle the eggs and remove some of the duds?
