Hello all,
My hen left her nest with 3 fertile eggs. 1 is very well advanced stages where its to the point of being solid inside, barely seeing the air sac. I placed in the incubator 2 days ago. I dont know if chick died before or after placing it.
How long should I wait to see if it hatches?

Sorry, had to go lay down. Hopefully, others will join in on the conversation.
I wouldn't crack an egg open unless it's been 48 hours after a pip.
Upon more inspection there is an air sac. I just dont know how far these are before they actually start pipping. I dont want them to bust and have an egg that has died and smelly...lol

Been there. Not fun.

Forgot an egg on the counter, that I was going to toss out. Woke up one night to the most awful stench! Tried to figure out if it was the dog farting (nope), cats had a smelly bm (nope), and as I looked around I saw the mess. It had been behind something, thus why I forgot it was there.

Yeah, the smell was bad enough to wake me. I do not ever want to repeat that again.

looks like the baby has passed away, if there is a bad smell and no movement, I would definitely toss the egg :(
If there is no smell and you can see any veins or movements, then you can leave it incubating a little longer and then check again
