Broody Hen Thread!

Hi! I'm on day 20 of my broody chicken sitting on 4 eggs, we had a scare 2 days ago where she sat on the wrong nest of eggs for a few hours and her eggs got cold, but I think they are still ok. She seems to be out enjoying the weather more today than normal though, so I'm debating cooping her up so she has to sit, or just let her be and nature take its course.

Day 21: I hear chirping under mom

but I will leave her alone for a day or so - so as not to expose any partially hatched chicks to excess air.

Glorious Birdie has two little black chicks...three to go...two are cracking a hole and chirping...the third is quiet....might just need a little more time...it's quite a bit larger than the others...Will find out by morning.

Thanks! We had a small catastrophe strike during hatch. Another hen got in and trampled 3 hatchlings

but we have one survivor!

I have reinforced the barricade and plan to let mama and baby out tomorrow when I can do some crowd control. The hatch was more about her than me so I am glad she has a baby to show for all her hard work. I hope she is a bit more aggressive as a mama then she was as a broody, otherwise this may be her only hatch.
