Broody Hen Thread!

I have a broody hen and am seriously considering buying some fertile eggs (no rooster at home) to put under her... I can't easily separate her and would be chicks from the rest of my flock. Is it a bad idea to try to hatch eggs under her? And are there disease concerns for my other adult birds to consider when bringing eggs home from another farm?

Mum is an lavender araucana and the chick is a araucana x hybrid. Unfortunatley non of the full araucanas hatched........although i could see they had developed.....
I know the shells are incredibly thick so i hope this was not the problem!!!! :)

Well I finally got a white silkie yesterday in hopes she will set on and hatch some of my fertile eggs I have.she is in her own pen in the coop.any advice would be greatly appreciated in this is my first time trying this.thank you

Its now day 28 and the broody is still sitting on the eggs- wondering if there was any hope of them hatching
should i take them off her?
Thanks!!!

My Broody hen hatched 5 chicks wednesday, 2 more thursday, and 2 more friday, 2 more saturday. We have 11 now and 4 eggs left I was wondering how long it normally takes before they are finished hatching?

My bantam cochin "BJ" went broody last week and I had previously ordered 5 Speckled Sussex chicks which were due to arrive on Thursday. As BJ is usually a wonderful mother, I put the chicks under her as soon as I got home. She took to them right away and is a proud momma! She took them outside today for the first time ~ they should be about 5 days old.
