Thanks for the replies about the 1" mesh. Its what I thought you'd say. So I've started work on a coop to move her to when the chicks hatch.

I'll give the fake egg thing a try.

I'm fighting rooster wars right now and keep threatening to put up a rooster pen if they don't start leaving my heels and ankles alone. I have great roosters except that since spring three of them have developed the occasional urge to beat up my muck boots when I go into the run. It would be funny except for the fact that my feet are in the muck boots at the time.

The Fake egg nest is to try to encourage some to go broody.

The roosters attacking you----Not Good----I would break them or break their neck!

Yeah, the two Welsummer roosters are more funny than anything. Mostly sneaking up behind me and wham, whacking my heel once then running like heck. They know if I catch them it's the walk of shame for them. My big problem rooster is my year old Lavender O. This bird is big and beautiful. Two months ago he decided that it was time to go hormonal on me. He does everything he should not be doing. Namely tidbitting for me then raising his hackles. If I try to walk through him he blocks me and then flies at me. Last night I was in the pen with my muck boots on, thank heavens. I was holding two water containers, empty ones, and when he stood those hackles up, I swung an empty water container at him, and yes, made contact. Didn't mean a thing to him. I kept trying to get him to back up and away from me and finally, after he hit one of my water containers so hard that he knocked it out of my grasp, (I was using them as a shield at this point, knowing the worst thing I could do was concede defeat) I put my foot up hoping to be able to push him back that way. Boy was I wrong. He hit my boot so hard that he penetrated the rubber and left two puncture wounds in the side of my foot. I was done being the nice lady treat giver at that point and grabbed a broom. Let's just say that he's been a perfect rooster today and has a healthy respect for my broom. Except when I was going up into the loft and he followed me around the parameter of the run tidbitting me all the way.

Anybody want a gorgeous Lavender Orpington rooster, with a healthy respect for brooms?

I had a Dark Cornish Rooster that I used to launch with a #2 Shovel....he never quit trying to get me...if I had him now...he would be taking up temporarily residents in my freezer...don't put up with that behavior any more. I won't have any more puncture wounds from any rooster....no matter how beautiful he is...they get aggressive, they go to the freezer....end of story.

Whoa,
How much is you feed bill a month? Lol

I was over 1200 at one time but I have cut them down alot right now---at my peak last year was a slight bit more than $200 per Week. $875 per month. BUT keep in mind I was raising and selling and I have sold over $1200 in one week and just a few dollars in a week---LOL and have had a lot of $500 to $800 weeks BUT I Never Hunted for something to do----I had my hands full most of the time. The Bird Flu scare messed everything up---a lot of Auctions closed, etc.

I agree. Time for freezer camp now. It won't get better. He'll just lay low until he can get you unawares and you could lose an eye or wind up with a deep gash...or worse, some guest will....and you definitely don't want to breed from him so why keep him around?

A sweet tempered roo is worth his weight in gold, and there are plenty to choose from.
