I have 3 broodies (1 EE & 2 Ameraucanas) sitting on the same nest with 3 Ameraucana eggs in that are due around May 13th. The EE started with 10 Ameraucana eggs and tossed 5 that were clear. She was then joined on the nest by the 2 Ameraucanas for the past week. They are down to 3 eggs now ~ I don't know what happened to the other 2 eggs

I am thinking about adding a few more Ameraucana eggs to the nest when it gets down to the last few days as I have some Ameraucana eggs in the incubator that are due the same time. I'm not sure how it will work if only three chicks hatch for 3 mommies! They are all first time broodies and just turned 1 year old. I call them "The 3 headed monster"!

Two OEGB hatched 7 little ones in joint effort! Thats normal. What isn't is the little male quail who adopted the whole group!! He follows them guards them and breaks up fights between the hens! At night he sits in the tree outside the barn and waits. If I'm slow opening the barn door he starts calling and calling for his "family" ! What do the hens think of their guardian?? Not Much!

Candled the 4 eggs under my broody banty last night! All look like they are developing. This is my first hatch, I'm so excited! Mama has food and water very close to her and I can tell she's been eating and drinking. But she was pretty bony last night when I picked her up. It's only a week in-should I be worried? I added some extra grains to her normal layer crumbles for the extra calories. I even offered her a worm today, but she wasn't interested. Never thought I'd be digging worms for the chickens!

Candled my 2 viable eggs under my broody and saw movement for the first time! It's my first hatch as well and I was absolutely in awe, it felt like I was peeking inside of a womb!
