Broody Hen Thread!

400

I think I may have a third broody!!! She is a white silkieXbuff Orpington. So it wouldn't surprise me if she did!! Lol
. It spreads like wild fire in the hen house !

It's HATCHING DAY!
Went out to check on my broody Wellsummer, and heard the faintest peeping. One tiny voice declaring it's existence to the world! The entire world being, of course, the fluffy warm underside of Momma.
Still early, but only one little guy has made it out. Spots on a sex-linked. Plenty of time though, so we will see if we get more. Don't really need to add to the flock this year, so even if all we get is a little roo we have to find a home for, at least we get to watch her raise one chick.
Such a fun experience so far!

I'm with you here. Can't keep all of the chicks, but I haven't had the fun of experiencing a mama and babies in years, so this will be fun.

I have one hen that wants to be a mom but I have 4 nesting boxes right next to each other. I don't know when she is going out to eat/drink. But when she does she goes from box 2 to box 3 or sometimes box 1. How do I keep her going to the correct box? Should I make a small cage just for her? I have a dog crate I could put her in. When would I need to move her? Please help I want some natural baby chicks.

Move her at night and make sure it's dark. Just put a blanket over her for the 1st day and then she should be fine.

They're HERE!
Three lovely little chicks starting to peek their heads out from under momma, one more hatching, and one struggling to escape from a dried out leathery membrane(helped how I could, and she's out and kicking, hope she's not too exhausted).
Four to five little chickies! So excited.
