Broody Hen Thread!

:barnie This thread is KILLING me! I desperately want a broody hen, but noooo- my rotten girls are having none of that. AND I have 4 Silkie hens and an OEGB! I've even been leaving eggs in the nest boxes to try and encourage them some. I can understand its winter though. And its calling for snow tomorrow, so I guess I'll have to take the eggs away in the morning so they don't freeze and I can at least put them in my fridge. Thank goodness I have an incubator to fuel my chick addiction. If I didn't, things could get ugly around here! Thanks for sharing pics guys, your broodies are adorable and will help me along until I have one of my own :gig

I can guarantee you one will at least go broody this spring.

online people sell broody hens because they do not want them u could just search for those! a good breed for broody hens are cochins and black astralorps! and u will NEED a rooster! Good Luck!!

Silkies and OEGB are kind of considred the standard in broody hens and you dont NEED a rooster if you buy fertilized eggs and pull a switch once your hen has gone broody.
