My hen hatched all seven eggs this week!!!:) She will still not get up off the nest to go outside or anything. She looks VERY weak and tired and will not eat much. It has already been a couple days and she is still not acting normal yet..............just sitting there.
Is this normal?
This is my first time having a broody , so I have no idea, lol:)

Thanks!:)

Congrats on your hatch! My first broody took 4 days before she wanted to leave the nest. My second broody just hatched and its been 3 days and she is still on. I did have food and water they could reach while still sitting on the nest, so maybe they felt there was not rush.

congratulations on your hatch. I can only assume they all choose whn its right for them. My little batch started to hatch yesterday and last one hatched this morning. By 3pm my BO was off the nest and wandering around with her 4 chicks. Only 1 egg from 6 failed to hatch/ develop and she most have known it was a dud, she had no worries about leaving it behind.

I very much doubt she is actually starving, as far as rearing young go, mine certainly has been an expert so far!

I have a friend coming to look at/possibly take my little two weeks old chicks today. I hope she wants them, because we are out of space and I know they would go to a good home. It is so hard to let go of the babies! I still have all five pullets (had to rehome the two roos) from my last hatch! I don't think we would ever be able to do this on a larger scale, we get too attached!

Well, my chick hatched under the second broody. I brought her in as the broody wasn't trying to take care of it. Another hen came over and pecked her once, and I snatched her up really fast. She is inside in her brooder keeping warm and drying off. Still 8 days until her chicks hatch.
