Broody Hen Thread!

My broody and her eggs got tumbled in their hut today!!

The wind was up to 30 mph and rolled the hut when I got there the eggs were smashed with cute black Fluffed chicks which would have hatched tomorrow or saturday.

Nooooo! That is so sad and frustrating.

Sorry to hear your loss.

I don't think Nessie has gotten off her clutch all day. I opened the door for her just as it was getting light and checked on her throughout the day. The food doesn't look disturbed at all. I can't really blame her after the snake incident yesterday, but I'm worried about her getting food and water.

What day is she on? They will take stretches of long sitting, and she maybe knows she has time to make up for the disturbance yesterday....if she is close to day 18, she may be on lock down...they can hear the chicks inside and know when it's time to set for lock down.

That, and if it were me, I wouldn't set foot outside either with 4 foot snakes wandering around. Poor Nessie! She's got nerves of steel to stay on that clutch.

Right!

It's only day 6 for her, but I wouldn't blame her for not wanting to risk it either. Poor girl.

Could you buy some day old chicks and give them to her at night? Or did she become unbroody already?

I am planning on getting her eggs because she is still stuck to the nest after 3 months and a tumble in the wind. This hen is impossible to break!!!
