We had one of our hens go broody and decided to let her go. It's been a game of wait and see. These are our first chickens and have only had them for about a year. Yesterday I noticed we had a new chick, today there are 3. She has a couple more unhatched so I am still watching close.
I was going to separate her from the rest of the chickens but she is keeping everyone in check, including me
Congrats on the hatch and welcome to the wonderful world of broodies!
You will have to watch the other flock members very closely....some are fine with chicks but some can be nasty. If you don't separate them then you should make sure there are 'safe' spots available for the chicks to run if they make another flock member unhappy. I have some hens who stay in the entire process in the main coop with the flock, from setting through teaching the chicks to roost, but other hens I separate for hatching and the first few days after hatch. You have to evaluate each flock as a whole and each hen as a broody to decide what would be best for your situation.
